Richmond Community Services has announced the results of its 2010 Wine Tasting and Auction held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Holiday Inn at Country Manor. The fundraiser grossed over $84,000, tripling the amount of last year’s event.
“We are thrilled to have exceeded our goal, especially in the current economic environment when we must rely on private support more than ever,” said Edward Spauster, Ph.D., President and CEO. “These funds will be put to immediate use in our innovative, under-funded programs for children and adults with significant intellectual and physical disabilities. It will make a huge difference in improving the quality of their lives.”
Leading up to the event, a record number of sponsors, prize donors and guests confirmed their participation. Revenues were generated by wine and cheese sales; a silent auction of goods and services; a live auction of big ticket dream vacations and activities; and Fund a Need, a special appeal that will finance homes that are customized to meet the needs of individuals with profound multiple disabilities. Improvements will include:
- Outdoor ramps for easy access into their homes
- Kitchens that enable individuals with varied disabilities to participate fully in the activities of daily living
- State of the art bathrooms adapted for people who use wheelchairs
“We could not have accomplished this without the extraordinary leadership of our co-chairs, Joseph R. Pugni, Jr. (Valhalla) and Carol Madole (Chappaqua), the efforts of our event committee and volunteers, and the generosity of our donors,” said Paula Barbag, Director of Marketing and Development. “Building on that success, we have already begun planning for 2011.”
