Richmond Guest Respite Services - "Care Away From Home"

Individuals with developmental disabilities use our respite accommodations during periods of time when family members are unavailable.  These situations may include time for medical issues, attending family events, work commitments and time for other family needs.  We accommodate overnight stays (planned or emergency) for these family members who reside in Westchester County or the Bronx.  Our guests are included with a group of people like themselves and are provided with a personal plan of care and supportive environments, including nursing and recreation.

Contact us at 914-968-1900 or respite@richmondgroup.org for more information about funding and reservations. There is funding through Medicaid for those eligible for the Medicaid Waiver Program and for others, there are entitlement programs or endowments, when available. We will be happy to give a tour of our facility to families while we explain our respite service.

Richmond Day Programs

We provide unique day programs for individuals with developmental disabilities who are 21 and older. The sites, located in Yonkers and Elmsford, New York, serve those with physical, cognitive and, in some cases, medical needs.

The community-based programs have an emphasis on helping our program participants "give back" to the community through volunteer jobs. Participants also enjoy a vast recreational program that includes swimming at local YWCAs, movies, museums, restaurants, and various points of interest.

Because of the complex physical needs of many of the program participants, individual physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy is offered. The therapists also work with the program staff in designing an individual program that will maximize each participant's potential. Many of the participants have limited mobility and yet are able to assist with cooking lunch, doing laundry, making copies for the program, and various other tasks using technology and adaptive switches. The ability to accomplish things in their environment increases their independence, as well as their self-esteem.

For more information about this unique adult day program in Yonkers or Elmsford, contact us at 914-423-3852.

M.O.V.E.- Mobility Opportunities Via Education

Move is a program that is designed to provide individuals with severe disabilities with an opportunity to experience and develop sitting, standing and walking abilities (with and without the use of specially adapted therapeutic equipment) through intensive therapy and training. By facilitating basic daily living skills, the program provides a decrease in the burden of care, builds personal dignity and brings new opportunities for fuller participation and involvement in life and integration and inclusion in the wider community.

The program includes:

  • Using education to acquire motor skills
  • Combining education and therapy
  • Measuring increments of improvement in functional motor skills
  • Providing individual plans to meet individual needs
  • Providing basic motor skills needed for development of other skills
  • Providing equipment that supports the program across a whole range of settings to:
increase a person’s dignity and individual rights
         improving bone and joint health
         increasing self-care skills
         increasing recreation opportunities
