Chlarese, on living in a home supported by Richmond

Chlarese

I’m 28 years old and have lived at Richmond for eight years. I’m much more independent now than when I lived with my grandmother.

I go out of the house more. I volunteer with others who have disabilities, doing art work. I decorate the bulletin boards. I volunteer because it’s good on the resume and I like the individuals who I live with.

I work at a supermarket as a stock clerk three days a week. It’s okay, but I’m looking for another job. I’d like to get a new job working with kids, helping them read and write, do math and maybe art work. The staff here at Richmond helps me out with a lot of stuff and is encouraging me to stay with my job until I find another one. So I’m staying with it. It’s a job, and I get paid.

Now, I’m thinking it’s time to go and try to be more independent. And the staff is advising me how to become even more independent.
